U-23 AFCON: Nigeria Crash Out, To Miss Next Olympics

Holders Nigeria have crashed out of this year’s CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, after they played 0-0 against South Africa in their final Group B game on Friday.

The Nigerian U-23 Eagles needed the three points to guarantee qualification into the semi-final but could only settle for a share of the points.
The draw means the team finished third on four points while South Africa are second on five points.
Cote d’Ivoire, who beat Nigeria 1-0 in their first game, topped the group on six points following their win (1-0) against Zambia also on Friday.
Also the coach Imama Amakpakabo-led side will now miss next year’s Tokyo Olympic games.
The semi-final pairings at this year’s U-23 is hosts Egypt taking on South Africa and Cote d’Ivoire squaring off against Ghana.
The winners, runners-up and third placed teams will represent Africa at the Olympics.
