A basketball court in Los Angeles closed to where US rapper Nipsey Hussle was murdered, has been named after the Grammy-nominated rapper.
In addition to naming the corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue after rapper whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, he has also been memoralized with his own memorial basket ball court in the Crenshaw district, not far from his clothing store – The Marathon Clothing.
The public basketball court that, which was officially unveiled on Sunday with a ribbon cutting, bares Nipsey’s image across 78 feet of pavement. The mural was painted by artist Gustavo Zermeno; which was backed by Venice Basketball League’s CEO, Nick Ansom.
Ansom told the media that the court was done as a way to pay Nipsey back for all his work in the community.
It’s the latest effort to pay tribute to Nip, whose memorial service was held in Los Angeles at the Staples Center, drawing thousands wanting to pay their final respects to the rapper, businessman, and philanthropist.
Currently, his suspected killer, Eric Holder, faces one murder count and two counts of attempted murder for injuring two other men who were with Nipsey at the time.
Holder is being held on $5 million bail. LAPD allege that Holder shot Nipsey in front of his Marathon Clothing store as the result of a “personal dispute.”
