Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has revealed the reason for dropping Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, from the 23-man list for the upcoming AFCON qualifier against Seychelles and international friendly against Egypt.
The former Manchester City player has only played 56 minutes in the Premier League for the Foxes since the beginning of this year.
Rohr suggested that the position of the former U-17 World Cup winner could be at risk.
”Kelechi needs to play with his club. He also needs to take advantage of the international break to show his qualities to his new coach,” Rohr explained to CAF’s official website.
”I give him time but there is danger for the AFCON for those who do not play regularly in their club. The final list for the AFCON is far from being made for anyone.”
Leicester recently appointed former Liverpool manager, Brendan Rogers as manager, after sacking Claude Puel over poor strings of results.
Players invited for the national duty are expected to report at the team’s camp in Delta State on March 18.
