Why I Turned Down Barcelona Offer - Odion Ighalo

Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has revealed that he turned down a chance to join Barcelona last summer because of the condition of the deal.

Ighalo, who had a descent season with relegated Chinese club, Changchun Yatai last season, had said he was desperate to return to Europe after his contract expired.

There have been reports that the former Watford attacker could return to England, but his purported move to join the La Liga champions gained more momentum. However, Ighalo decided to sign for another China Super League team, Shanghai Shenhua.

Reports have emerged that the striker reportedly told his friends that the Catalan giants had wanted him on a season-long loan, which he rejected.

“The deal was for me to play on loan for a season, but I was not ready to take chances as my playing minutes could not be guaranteed and at end of the season I will be a free agent,” Ighalo reportedly told friends.

“I preferred to secure my future by signing a longer deal in China instead and that was why the Barcelona move fell through.”
