Wenger, Mourinho Linked With Newcastle Job Amid Benitez’s Exit Rumour

Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho are being linked to Newcastle United manager’s position, if billionaire Sheik Khaled bin Zayed Al Nahyan completes the takeover of the club.

According to the Mirror, it is understood that current manager, Rafa Benitez, will be sacked should the Abu Dhabi-based group take control of the Magpies.

Wenger and Mourinho, who are currently not engaged, have been identified as possible replacements.

Mike Ashley, Newcastle current owner, has reportedly postponed contract negotiations with Benitez, but instead chose to prioritise takeover discussions with Sheik Khaled.

The Spaniard’s deal at St James’ Park expires at the end of this month.

However, the report further claimed that there are doubts on whether the takeover will go through, saying Khaled bin Zayed has not provided proof of funds to Asley.

Wenger and Mourinho were asked about the future while working on the beIN SPORTS broadcast of the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham over the weekend.

Wenger said: “I’m very generous and I would love to give you what you want, but I cannot give you what I want because I don’t know what I do.”

And according to Mourinho:” We are not here to speak about it (Our future jobs). We are here to speak about this (the Champions League Final) and not about us.”
