‘Sheath Your Sword’ - CAN Urges Fatoyinbo, Dakolo

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Biodun Fatoyinbo, Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), and Busola Dakolo, celebrity photographer, to both sheath their swords while it attempts to mediate and resolve the dilemma between the duo.

The umbrella body of Christians in the country made the appeal in a statement issued by Joseph Bade Daramola, CAN Acting General Secretary, regarding the rape allegations levelled by Busola, wife of popular singer, Timi Dakolo, against Fatoyinbo.

CAN said it is seriously disturbed by the allegations levelled against the COZA pastor by the accuser.

The religious body, however, said it was more distraught by the comments of some section of the public insulting the Nigerian Church over the allegation.

The statement read: “It is disheartening how some commentators and columnists have been insulting the Body of Christ in Nigeria as a result of this incident.

“Like we have earlier stated, it doesn’t matter who is involved, rape is ungodly and reprehensible.

“But we have resisted the temptation to jump into any conclusion since a body like ours will be expected to have uncovered the truth about any matter before making public statements and not base its position merely upon media reports.”

CAN stated that even though it has publicly admitted that the COZA senior pastor is not a registered member, the church still remains under the “spiritual watchcare” of the association as the umbrella body of Christians in Nigeria.

The statement disclosed that the CAN leadership is mediating and looking for ways to resolve the issue between two Christians.

The statement read: “Since both Pastor Fatoyinbo and Mrs Timi Dakolo are Christians, the leadership of CAN is already seeking ways to address the issues in order to heal every wound already inflicted on the parties concerned and the body of Christ in general. It is our hope that steps which will exacerbate the current damages already done will be avoided.

“As we seek the help of CAN Elders and the Holy Spirit in resolving the current problem, it is our prayer that both parties will sheath their swords and stop the media war in the interest of the Church and for the greater glory of God.”

Fatoyinbo has denied the allegation levelled against him by Dakolo.
