Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scored a screamer to help the Reds outclass a lacklustre Chelsea in a Premier League match on Sunday at Anfield.
Sadio Mane had opened scoring for the Reds before Salah added the second in a victory that was their first against Chelsea at Anfield since 2012.
The win means Liverpool are back on top of the league table on 85 points, two ahead of Manchester City who had earlier gone top after beating Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Liverpool could have gone ahead in the sixth minute but Mohamed Salah’s volley inside the box was well saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Chelsea created their own chance in the 20th minute through Eden Hazard whose shot was well saved by Allison.
In the 26th minute, Liverpool went close again as Salah knocked down Fabinho’s long pass for the on rushing Jordan Henderson whose goal bound shot was blocked away for a corner by David Luiz.
Chelsea were forced into a first half change as Antonio Rudiger went off injured and was replaced by Andreas Christensen.
In the second half, the deadlock was broken after an unmarked Mane headed in an Henderson cross in the 51st minute.
Liverpool doubled their lead in the 53rd minute through a 25-yard stunner from Salah.
Chelsea had two very good chances which fell to Hazard but his first effort hit the post while his second attempt from range came off Alisson.
With less than 20 minutes remaining, Roberto Firmino was left unmarked inside the box from a corner but his shot was saved by Arrizabalaga.
In the 88th minute Chelsea almost conceded a third goal following a poor clearance from Arrizabalaga but Mane could not capitalise.
