Real Reason I Left Chelsea – David Luiz

David Luiz, one of Arsenal’s summer signings, has revealed why he left Chelsea to join the Gunners.

Luiz was a surprise last transfer day swoop for Arsenal in the England window, with the Brazilian joining for £8 million on a two-year deal.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender revealed that he had to leave Stamford Bridge, after having a frantic discussion with his former colleague and new boss, Frank Lampard.

The 32-year-old, who made his debut for Arsenal at home in the 2-1 over Burnley on Saturday in the Premier League, revealed that he could not fit into Lampard’s plans.

Speaking after the victory, Luiz told ESPN Brasil: “It was a great pleasure.

“It is a new challenge in my career, where I took the decision to fight for new things and I enjoyed it in the best way possible.

“In talks with Frank [Lampard], he had a different plan for the year. So we spoke in total honesty and he made it clear that he had different ideas from mine.

“So I had this opportunity to receive an offer from Arsenal, which is a great club.”
