Manchester City have emerged champions of the 2018/2019 Premier League season after coming from behind to beat Brighton and Hove Albion 4-1 at Amex on the final day of the campaign on Sunday.
Goals from Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan, cancelled out Glen Murray’s shock opener.
Brighton took the lead in the 27th minute after Murray rose highest to head a corner past Ederson.
Just a minute later, City were back on level terms thanks to Aguero, who hit a low left-foot shot past Brighton keeper after he was slipped through by David Silva.
In the 38th minute, City went 2-1 up via a powerful header by Laporte from Mahrez’s corner.
Mahrez made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute with a brilliant individual play on the edge of the Brighton box, as he neatly dribbled past his marker before unleashing a right-foot volley into the roof of the net.
City kept creating probing for more goals and were rewarded in the 72nd minute as Gundogan curled in a brilliant free-kick to put the champions 4-1 up.
City are the first club to retain the Premier League title in a decade after Manchester United retained the title in 2009.
The Manchester club who finished top on 98 points , have now won the English top flight league title six times.
At Anfield, Liverpool got the win they need beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0, but it was not enough to claim a first league title since 1990 following City win against Brighton.
A brace from Sadio Mane in the 17th and 81st minutes, saw Liverpool finish the season in second place on 97 points.
Liverpool’s young defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold, is now the first defender in Premier League history to provide 12 assists in a single season.
At the King Power Stadium, Chelsea claimed the final automatic Champions League spot despite playing a 0-0 draw against Leicester City.
Chelsea ended the season on 72 points while Leicester finished ninth on 52 points.
Tottenham Hotspur secured fourth position after they were held to a 2-2 draw by a resurgent Everton side.
Eric Dier gave Spurs the lead in the 3rd minute before Theo Walcott made it 1-1 on 69th minute.
Everton went 2-1 up thanks to Cenk Tosun, who scored on 72 minutes, but Christian Eriksen equalised with 15 minutes remaining.
At Turf Moor, Arsenal ended a run of four straight league games without a win as they beat Burnley 3-1.
A brace from Pierre-EmerickAubameyang and a solitary strike from Edward Nketiah, secured the win for Arsenal who ended fifth on 70 points. Ashley Barnes got Burnley’s only goal.
Nigerian international, Alex Iwobi provided both assists for Aubameyang’s goals.
And at Old Trafford, Manchester United ended the season on a sad note as they lost 0-2 to relegated Cardiff City.
A brace from Nathaniel-Lang in either half, gave Cardiff the shock win against United who finished sixth on 66 points.
In other results on the final day of the season, Crystal Palace beat Bournemouth 5-3, Newcastle thrashed relegated Fulham 4-0 away, Southampton and Huddersfield Town played 1-1, while Watford were walloped 4-1 at home by West Ham United.
Liverpool are the only team in the 2018-19 Premier League season to finish the season unbeaten at home.
