Int’l Friendly: Eagles End 29-Year Winless Run Against Egypt

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated hosts of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt in an international friendly game played at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Tuesday.

The last time the Eagles won a match against the Pharaohs was on March 5, 1990, in an Africa Nations Cup match.

Midtjylland striker, Paul Onuachu who made his first start (second appearance) for the Eagles, scored the only goal just one minute into the game.

The 24-year-old controlled a long pass from the midfield before unleashing a superb right-footed volley into the top right corner of the net.

Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah did not feature for Egypt but Arsenal midfielder, Mohamed Elneny was in action for the seven-time AFCON champions.

The late Rashidi Yekini scored the only goal for the Eagles with a first half header.

Victory against Egypt on Tuesday made it back-to-back wins in the international break for the Eagles as they also beat Seychelles 3-1 in their last AFCON qualifier on Friday.
