I Won't Quit - Real Madrid Coach Solari Insists

Real Madrid coach, Santiago Solari, has insisted that he would not resign his position after his side were humiliated out of the Champions League.

The Champions were humbled 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu by Dutch side, Ajax, on Tuesday. Madrid, who have won the competition for the past three consecutive seasons, lost 5-3 on aggregate, despite a 2-1 advantage in the first leg in Holland.

The defeat compounded a difficult seven days for the club. They were eliminated from Copa del Rey by bitter-rivals, Barcelona, who is also leading them by 12 points in La Liga with twelve games to play.

But the under fire manager said the team was sad about what had happened, but said he has to continue with his job.

“We’re sad and we’re annoyed,” Solari said. We did all we could but it was not enough.

“I’m here to work. We have to be professional and come back to work. I have not come here to take on such a difficult moment at the club to then give up”.

The 13-time winners have now lost four consecutive home matches in all competitions.

Solari was asked if it would be fair should the club decide to sack him, he replied:

“That’s not a judgement I should make. We have a league game at the weekend. We all have the obligation, a professional duty and because of our hearts we owe to this team to come and train and give our best”.

When also asked about Dani Carvajal’s comments that the season had been ‘s**t’, he added:

“Things always get said in the heat of the moment after these games.”
