I Won't Leave APC - Governor Amosun Assures President Buhari

Executive Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun has declared that he will not ditch the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. Governor Amosun said this on Sunday after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The governor, who was accompanied on the visit by Oba Adedotun Gbadebo III , the Alake of Egbaland; Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, the Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewaland; and Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, a former Minister of State for Education, also confirmed that he will work for the re-election of President Buhari in the 2019 general elections.

He said, “We will stick with (President Buhari) him. So, I want them to know that we are not going anywhere.

“I’m going to be with the APC, we are in the APC and even after his second term, which by the grace of God and the support of all Nigerians he will win.’’

Governor Amosun’s renewal of allegiance is coming at a period when he is having a turbulent relationship with the national leadership of the APC over the governorship primary in the state.

The APC National Working Committee Electoral panel headed by Muhammad Indabawa declared Dapo Abiodun winner of the Ogun State governorship primary.

The Governor has, however, remained adamant that Adekunle Akinlade, his preferred candidate, must be presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the party’s candidate for the gubernatorial election next year.

The national leadership of the APC, headed by Adams Oshiomhole, is believed to have forwarded the name of Abiodun to INEC at the expiration of the deadline for parties to submit names of their candidates on Thursday.

Also, following several reactions about the appearance of the Alake of Egbaland in a group photograph with other attendees, Layi Labode, his media aide, said the traditional ruler would speak on his role in the meeting on Monday.

Labode acknowledged that there has been “keen interest” following the appearance of the traditional ruler in such a meeting and assured the media and the general public that the Alake would address the issues raised.

The statement read,  “We have been following, with keen interest and responsibility, the news making the rounds in the media that the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Majesty, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, CFR and the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, had gone to Abuja to intercede in the ongoing disagreement between Senator Ibikunle Amosun and the APC national leadership on the Ogun State APC governorship ticket dispute.

“We are very much aware of the interest of the media and the public in such circumstance.

“We wish to assure the media and the public that His Majesty, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, would speak to the media on the issue tomorrow, Monday, 22 October, 2018,  on the sidelines of the swearing-in of the New Chief Judge of Ogun State, coming up at the Oba Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.”
