Manchester United defeated holders Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to qualify for the quarter-final of this season’s Emirates FA Cup on Monday night.
Two first-half goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba were enough to secure a place in the last eight.
Despite being on the back foot for most part of the first half, it was United who took the lead in the 31st minute thanks to Herrera who headed in Pogba’s inch-perfect cross.
On the stroke of half-time, United went 2-0 up through Pogba who rose in between two Chelsea defenders to head in Marcus Rashford’s cross.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now the first Manchester United manager to win a game at Stamford Bridge since Sir Alex Ferguson in October 2012.
Also, Manchester United have now eliminated the reigning FA Cup holders 11 times, more than any other side in FA Cup history (last doing so in 2011/2012 against Manchester City).
The last time both teams met in the FA Cup was in last season’s final which Chelsea won 1-0 thanks to Eden Hazard’s first half penalty.
