League Two club, Colchester United caused the biggest upset in Tuesday’s League Cup third round clash by knocking out Tottenham Hotspur via penalties.
After 120 minutes of football ended 0-0, Colchester triumphed 4-3 on penalties, to advance into the next round.
Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Eric Lamela, Heung-Min Son were some of the regulars for Spurs while Harry Kane was not in action.
At the Emirates, Arsenal thrashed Nottingham Forest 5-0 to progress at this year’s competition.
Summer signing, Gabriel Martinelli scored a brace while Rob Holding, who just returned from a long injury layoff, Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock, each scored a goal.
The game also saw the return of Hector Bellerin from injury and former Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney who was also sidelined with injury.
League Cup champions, Manchester City made light work of Preston North End following a 3-0 win.
An own goal from Preston’s Ryan Ledson and a goal each from Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, secured the win for City.
In another League Cup tie, Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first goal since September, 2018, as Leicester City beat Luton Town 4-0.
Iheanacho who has not featured in the Premier League for Leicester this season, got his side’s fourth goal on 86 minutes.
Demarai Gray, James Justin and Youri Tielemans were the other scorers for Leicester.
And other in other results, Alex Iwobi had an assist as Everton beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0, Southampton trounced Portsmouth 4-0 and Watford beat Swansea 2-1.
