Pete Edochie, veteran Nollywood actor, has frowned at the way African men are adopting foreign culture to propose to their lovers.
The well-respected actor said it is not right for African men to kneel while proposing to their wives to-be in the name of love.
According to him, doing so means that men are giving up their authority in the house to women.
“Kneeling to propose to a woman is white people’s culture because women dominate there and have more right than men, it is not the African man’s ways”, Edochie said.
He reminded men that in the African traditional setting, it is the woman who kneels to give a man drink to show her loyalty, humility and total submission, saying that is the way it should be.
“I didn’t kneel to propose to my wife and we’ve stayed 50 years in our marriage. I took my time to woo her, when it’s time to settle down, I asked if she’ll marry me and that was it,” he added.
He went on to recount how the Europeans came to Africa pretending to be archeologists, but “little did we know they came to destroy our culture and trade us.”
