AFCON Qualifier: Super Eagles Beat Benin Republic In Season Opener

The Super Eagles of Nigeria got their 2021 AFCON qualifier off to a perfect start after beating Benin Republic 2-1 in their Group L opening game in Uyo on Wednesday.

A goal in each half from Victor Osimhen, from the penalty spot and Samuel Kalu, cancelled out former Sunderland forward Stephane Sessegnon’s shock opening goal for the visitors.
Benin took a shock lead in the third minute after Joel Dossou went past Jamilu Collins before squaring for Stephane Sessegnon who scored.
In one minute of first half added time, the Eagles equalised through Osimhen, who converted from the penalty spot after Ola Aina was fouled inside the box.
In the 62nd minute, the Eagles went 2-1 up thanks to Kalu who cut in from the left, beat his marker before drilling a low shot into the net.
Up next for the Eagles is an away tie against Lesotho on matchday two on Sunday.
In the group’s other game, Lesotho forced Sierra Leone to a 1-1 away draw.
