AFCON: Guinea Will Be Tougher Than Burundi, Says Ighalo

Jude Ighalo, Super Eagles’ striker, has noted that Guinea, Nigeria’s next opponent in the ongoing 2019 Total AFCON in Egypt, will be tougher than Burundi.

The Eagles laboured to a 1-0 result against debutants, Burundi, in the group’s opener last Saturday. Guinea played out 2-2 against Madagascar, who are also making their first appearance at the African showpiece.

But Ighalo, who came on as a substitute to score the lone goal for Nigeria in the encounter, stated that the Guineans would be a tougher nut to crack for Nigeria because they have better players.

“The way we fought hard against Burundi, is the same way we will fight against Guinea. The Guinea game will be a tough game, even tougher than the Burundi game because Guinea have a better team and better players,” he told Brilafm on Tuesday.

“They keep the possession of the ball, they have good strikers and fast wingers. So It is going to be a tough game, but we have been working hard for the past two days and hopefully by God’s grace, we will get victory”.

Nigeria now top Group B with three points, Guinea and Madagascar share the second and third spots, while Burundi sit at the bottom.

The Eagles will take on Guinea on Wednesday in Alexandria in their second group game, after which Burundi will lock horns with Madagascar.
