We ‘Looked Like Schoolboys’ Against Liverpool - Luiz Suarez

Barcelona striker, Luis Suarez, has said his team’s defence looked like schoolboys for Liverpool’s winning goal in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Reds won 4-0 at Anfield with Divock Origi scoring the winner from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s quick play corner kick, to overturn a 3-0 deficit in their second-leg semi-final encounter.

Barcelona had looked to have won the tie after winning 3-0 at the Nou Camp in the first-leg last week.

But Origi gave the Reds hope at home after seven minutes, before half- time substitute, Georginio Wijnaldum, scored two quickfire goals to level the tie.

The winner came while the visitor’s defence were still getting ready for a corner, which Alexander-Arnold took quickly to set up Origi, who scored the fourth.

The Uruguayan, who was booed all night by fans of his former team, summed up his team’s night.

“We have to be ready for all the criticism that is going to rain down on us now,” Suarez said.

“We are very sad, we are in a lot of pain.”

“For their fourth goal we looked like schoolboys.”

It was Barcelona’s second Champions League collapse in consecutive seasons. They were knocked out on away goals, after being beaten 3-0 by AS Roma in the quarter-final last season.

Coach Ernesto Valverde, said he took responsibility for capitulating against Liverpool.

“I do not know how it’s going to affect me, here we are, the coach has to take responsibility,” Valverde said.

Barca have won La Liga in two consecutive seasons under Valverde, but they have not reached a Champions League final since 2015.

“It’s very painful for us, especially for our people, it’s the second year they’ve come back like that,” he added.
