UEFA Opens Disciplinary Proceedings Against Montenegro Over Racist Chant

European football governing body, UEFA, has opened disciplinary proceedings against Montenegro over the racist behaviour of its supporters towards England players on Monday.

England stars, Raheem Sterling, Hudson Calloum-Odoi and Danny Rose, suffered racists abuses in the Euro 2020 qualifier in Podgorica, which the Three Lions won 5-1.

UEFA said “disciplinary proceedings” had been opened against Montenegro with one charge for “racist behaviour.” It said the case will be dealt with on May 16.

Anti-discrimination group, Fare, said they had identified the match as “high risk” for racism before the game.

Montenegro coach, Ljubisa Tumbakovic, said he did not “hear or notice any” racist abuse.

But Piara Powar, Fare executive director, stated: “We had an observer present who picked up evidence of racial abuse.

“Our monitoring team have been compiling the evidence we have before presenting it to UEFA.”
