Man United Can Win Champions League This Season - Solskjaer

Manchester United interim boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has claimed that the team can go all the way to win the UEFA Champions League this season.

His comments came after his team pulled a dramatic comeback win over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday in their second leg last 16 tie.

United won 3-1 in France and 3-3 on aggregate to qualify for the quarterfinals after losing 2-0 in the first  leg.

Marcus Rashford converted an injury-time penalty to send United through after Diago Dalot’s shot hit Presnel Kimpempe on the arm late in the game.

“Of course, we fancy ourselves,’ said Solskjaer.

“We can go all the way but we just have to wait for the draw and take the game as it comes.

“We always believed, that’s the thing. This is what we do. That’s Man United. The belief in the boys was what we hoped for”.

Solskjaer praised Rashford for keeping his cool to beat Gianluigi Buffon when Slovenian referee, Damir Skomina, awarded a penalty in another Video Assistant Referee controversy.

“Fearless,” the Norwegian added. He’s got no doubt. When you’re young, you don’t have any fear. I wasn’t sure we’d score. I’ve been in the Champions League with Molde and we got a last-minute penalty against Basel and missed it.

“The referee had a big call to make and he made himself bigger so it’s a clear penalty apparently.

“I didn’t see it (the incident). I hope it’s the right decision. I tried to help the referee to calm my staff down”.

Solskjaer’s latest success with the feat achieved by the team since he took over at Old Trafford, could further increase the call for the United to give him the job on a permanent basis.

United co-chairman, Avi Glazer, was also reportedly in Paris to witness the triumph.

When asked about his opinion on being appointed fully, the former United player stated:

“I keep doing this job as best as I can and see where it takes us. That’s not my job to answer, not now. I’m just doing the best I can and planning with the club for the future, for us.

“It doesn’t matter if I’m here or not, I’m still giving my opinion and advice. I don’t really mind that, I’m a supporter, as well, I want the best, so you can ask me any advice any time.”
