Copa America: Messi Penalty Saves Argentina

Lionel Messi converted a second-half penalty to earn Argentina a 1-1 draw against Paraguay in their second group game at the ongoing Copa America on Wednesday.

The Barcelona forward scored in the 57th minute at Belo Horizonte’s Mineirao Stadium to cancel out a first-half opener by Paraguay’s Richard Sanchez.

Argentina also have their goalkeeper Franco Armani to thank for saving a penalty in the second half that prevented Paraguay from inflicting a successive defeat on them.

They were stunned 2-0 by Colombia in their first group game.

The draw left Argentina with one point from two games, and bottom of the table with one game remaining.

However, with the two best third placed teams progressing to the quarter-finals, the Albiceleste can still reach the last eight if they record a decisive win against Qatar in their final group game.
