It was an emotional moment for Nikki Laoye at the just concluded Headies 2013 awards as she was in tears when she was pronounced the winner of the Best Vocal Performance (Female) category for her ‘Only You’ song.
But for her father who passed away about two years ago, she probably wouldn’t have been so emotional about the award.
According to her, her father’s passing took a toll on her; she put her music career on hold amongst other things to mourn the deceased parent. And the song that got her a Headie was dedicated to the memory of her father.
She made her appreciation speech amid tears.
Nikki Laoye beat Waje, Niyola, Seyi Shay and Zaina to emerge winner in the category.
